Measuring Curtains
How to measure for curtains
All of our ready made curtains are sold in pairs, the sizes refer to each separate curtain. So if you purchase a pair of curtains that are 90 inches by 90 inches , you will receive two curtains 90 inches wide by 90 inches drop. This allows for a full and luxurious fitting of the curtains, which means there will be plenty of gather or folds in the fabric. Because all ready made curtains are sold in pairs the measuring is not the same as net curtains.
Width
First of all, measure the width of your curtain track/pole. If you have not fitted your track or pole, please consider that the track should be fitted 6 inches (15cm) above the window and extend 6 inches (15cm) either side, excluding the finials of a pole.
As a MINIMUM, the total width of both curtains should be one and a half times as wide as the track or pole (excluding finials).
Length
Before you measure the length of the curtains, you need to decide whether you would like your curtains to fit to the window sill, below the sill or to the floor.
We recommend that:
- Sill length curtains finish 1/2" (1.5cm) above the sill
- Curtains that finish below the sill finish 6 " (15cm) below
- Floor length curtains finish 1/2" (1.5cm) from the floor
We highly recommend you use a metal tape measure so that your measurements are accurate.
Measuring curtain length for poles
Pencil Pleat Curtains: Measure From the eye, the small metal circle at the bottom of each curtain ring. This will prevent the poles or rings from being hidden by the curtain.
For tape top voiles measure from the centre of the eyelet and add on 5mm.
Eyelet Top Curtains: Measure from the very top of the pole and add on 3cm to the height. This is to allow for the 3cm of material which will hang above the pole.
Tab Top Curtains: Measure from the very top of the pole.
Measuring curtain length for tracks - Measure from the top of the tracks.
